The Oregon Legislature was in short session this year, which meant we were only able to schedule one Legislative Update for 2024. We held the update at the Corvallis Community Center instead of the library because the library was booked up on Saturday mornings. There was a very good turnout, including many who logged in online. The room was a bit small, but we made it work in part due to the excellent assistance of the C3 staff.
We invited all the legislators who represent portions of Benton County. This included Senator Sara Gelser-Blouin, Senator Dick Anderson, Representative and Speaker of the House Dan Rayfield, Representative David Gomberg and Representative Shelly Boshart-Davis. Senator Gelser-Blouin and Senator Dick Anderson were able to attend. We had positive confirmations from others, but last scheduling issues prevented them from attending. The result of having just two legislators was that there was more time for each to answer question then there is when there are four or more. As always, there were wide ranging questions and not enough time to address them all.
Next year is a long legislative session which gives more opportunities to schedule updates throughout the session. We really need some volunteers to step up and help with this. It is not a huge commitment and is of pretty limited duration. The Legislative Updates are something that the community looks forward to. Help make them happen!
