Dear League Members,
We hope you’re enjoying this beautiful summer! One of the season’s high points for the League is our annual retreat for incoming and outgoing board members. It’s a time to remind ourselves of leadership opportunities and to look forward to the coming League year, discussing our priorities and considering topics of interest and concern to our members and to the wider community.
As we welcome our 2024-25 board, we also want to give a shout out and an enthusiastic round of applause to our two outgoing board members, Connie Bozarth and Laura Lahm Evenson.
Connie first joined the League in 2016 and quickly became an active member of our Community Planning Committee, where she has helped organize a variety of programs, including book/webinar discussions and the annual “Know Your City” series. After serving as the 2nd Vice President in 2021-22, Connie agreed to serve as President for one year (2022-23), a leadership role she ably filled with purpose and a lot of hard work! Throughout her years with the League, Connie has consistently helped with set-up of the library meeting room for our many programs.
Like Connie, Laura first joined the League as a member of the Community Planning Committee. “It was sometime around 1995,” Laura recalls. “The committee was extremely busy!” Little did Laura know that this was just the beginning of her involvement with our League. For many years, Laura helped Doris and Dick Waring with meeting set-up at the public library, as well as working with Louise Marquering to organize our League’s annual Soup Social and Annual Meeting dinner for 15 years. In 2014, Laura agreed to serve as Co-president, and she assumed the full duties of President from 2015 to 2019, making her one of the longest-serving leaders in our League’s history! She remained on the board the following year as Past President and also served on the Nominating Committee that year. Laura continued on the board from 2020 to 2024, serving as Membership Chair. With an amazing ability to multi-serve, she also met regularly with Annette and Elisabeth throughout 2023-24 as a member of our Coordinating Committee, providing wise guidance, a wonderful sense of humor, and a willingness to help wherever she was needed.
On behalf of our League membership, we would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to Connie and Laura for their years of service – and a warm welcome to our incoming board!
