Child Care Consensus Meeting: Session 1 of 2

Join us for an important League process - reviewing the Child Care study and sharing your opinion so that LWVOR can create a position on Child Care.

At Convention 2021, LWV of Washington County proposed a restudy of child care. Child care concerns have changed dramatically since our 1988 – Child Care In Oregon publication. Our advocacy position has not changed.

Download the new study Caring for Our Children here

League of Women Voters of Oregon is seeking consensus from local leagues across the state in order to develop an updated position.  Note: Consensus means a general agreement by members, not a strict voting process.

Read the study and mark your calendar to make your opinion count by attending one of the meetings we have planned to discuss the consensus questions:

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY OF THE NEW STUDY

An effective childcare system benefits the entire economy. In Oregon, we have not done a good job of prioritizing child care needs and developing a strategic, coordinated childcare plan. Usually, the term “child care” suggests a picture of preschoolers in a classroom. This is quite different from the reality of what today’s parents need so they can make ends meet and contribute to society. More Information

    Recall Consensus Meeting (am)

555 NW Tyler Ave 555 NW Tyler Ave, Corvallis, United States

A recall election enables voters to remove an elected official from office before the official’s term has ended. Considering the growing use of the recall and the critical need to understand the potential consequences of the recall process, the LWV of Oregon recently completed a study on the Recall Process – and now it’s our turn to weigh in.

Join us for a lively discussion at an upcoming Consensus Meeting to consider…

    • What is Oregon’s Recall process?
    • How do we compare with other states?
    • What can we do to address these key issues?
      • The financial cost burden on local governments
      • Tight timelines
      • Wide variation in filling vacated seats for different offices

There are two Consensus Meetings for you to choose from – one in the morning and one in the evening:

    Tuesday, December 10, 2024 – 10:00 to 11:30 am
At the home of Dee Mooney, 555 NW Tyler Avenue, Corvallis
(Note:  Parking is limited, so please consider carpooling or wearing walking shoes. Park in the gravel driveway east of the house, or look for street parking. Directly across from the house is signed "No Parking." Call Dee at 541-619-0351 if you need further directions.)

    OR

    Wednesday, December 18, 2024 – 7:00 to 8:30 pm
At the home of Carrie Ottow, 3625 NW Fillmore Avenue, Corvallis

Prior to the discussion, it would be helpful for you to read (or at least skim) the STUDY and the CONSENSUS QUESTIONS. Please contact Annette Mills if you have any questions.
