June 16, 2026 Consensus Meetings: K-12 Education for Exceptional Learners in Oregon

The League of Women Voters – at the national, state, and local levels - has hundreds of standing positions that are the basis of action, such as testimony to elected bodies (Congress, state legislatures, city councils, etc.). These standing positions are arrived at through a process of study and consensus. The LWV of Oregon recently completed the first part of a 3-part study on K-12 Education in Oregon. Part 1 focuses on exceptional learners. So now it’s our turn, local League members, to participate in the consensus part of the process to help inform a new
    standing position.

If you’ve never attended a League consensus meeting, here’s a quick summary:

    • “Consensus” refers to the overall decision making process by which a League determines there is substantial agreement among members to discuss and arrive at conclusions on a specific topic.
    • The LWVOR study committee on K-12 Education has developed a set of statements related to the study that we will discuss during our upcoming consensus meetings.
    • Our discussion will determine whether our group agrees, disagrees, or has no consensus on each statement. There is also an opportunity for us to add comments or questions.
    • The consensus process is not a simple majority, nor is it complete agreement; rather it is the overall ‘sense of the group’ as expressed through the exchange of ideas and opinions.

We hope you’ll join us for a lively discussion at an upcoming consensus meeting! There are two Consensus Meetings for you to choose from:

    MORNING - Tuesday, June 9, 2026 - 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM
    EVENING - Tuesday, June 16, 2026 – 7:00 - 8:30 PM

Each meeting will be held at the home of a League member. Exact locations will be noted in an email announcement to League members only.

Prior to the consensus discussion, attendees are asked to review as many of the following as possible:

Please contact Annette Mills at [email protected] if you have questions about any of the above.

We look forward to seeing you at one of the consensus meetings!
