Our committee works to make sure local government policies and actions support the League’s position which calls for healthy, diverse, and inclusive communities where people can live, work, shop, and play, and that the environment is protected and the climate emergency addressed.

Our activities this year included the continuation of our Know Your City series for the 7th year. We sponsored two programs, “Parks and Recreation: What Do We Have and How Do We Pay for It?” and “Pipes and Roads and Sewers, OH MY! Aging City Infrastructure.” We also sponsored a land use forum, “Oregon’s New Land Use Rules: How and Why Your Neighborhood May Be Changing.”

For the new year, we plan to focus on changes to land use requirements and their implementation, including Climate Friendly and Equitable Communities and efforts to increase housing while still maintaining livability and climate resilience.
