August 2024: Meet & Greet Membership Picnic – Local League members gathered at the Rotary Shelter in Willamette Park for an opportunity to make new friends and reconnect with old ones.
September 2024: “Undivide Us” – Our year kicked off with a standing-room-only program that featured a film called “Undivide Us,” about how we can effectively address the increasing divisions in our country. The film was followed by small group discussions.
October 2024: Candidate Fair – In collaboration with the Linn Benton Branch of the NAACP, our League sponsored a Candidate Fair to give voters a chance to meet candidates for the offices of city council, county commissioner, and state representative.
November 2024: Consensus Meetings on LWVOR Child Care Study – Members had an opportunity to address consensus questions related to the state League’s Child Care Study.
December 2024: “Post-Election Analysis” and Consensus Meetings on LWVOR Recall Elections Study – We heard the perspectives of two political science professors, Dr. Christopher Stout and Dr. David Bernell, about the outcome of the November election. Also this month, League members had an opportunity to address consensus questions related to the LWVOR study on recall elections.
January 2025: Soup Social/Priority-Setting and Land Use Forum – This month, we gathered for delicious soup and warm camaraderie, followed by discussions led by Ann Schauber to identify our League priorities at the local and state levels. Also, our Community Planning Committee organized a well-attended forum at which presenters discussed the impact of new state land use regulations on Corvallis and Benton County.
February 2025: Know Your City 2025 – The League’s Community Planning Committee organized two programs in this year’s Know Your City series: “Parks and Recreation: What Do We Have and How Do We Pay For It?” and “Pipes and Roads and Sewers, OH MY! Aging City Infrastructure.” Each program featured City staff.
March 2025: Legislative Update – We launched this year’s series of Legislative Updates, co-sponsored by Benton County and held at Benton County’s Kalapuya Building. Since 2025 is the Oregon Legislature’s long session, we scheduled updates in March, April, May, and June for community members to hear from our state representatives and state senator.
April 2025: School Board Candidate Fair – The League’s Housing Committee co-sponsored a City program on affordable housing, titled “Building Solutions: Addressing Housing Needs in Our Community.” Also, our Voter Education Committee organized a Candidate Fair that featured candidates for the Corvallis School Board.
