The Committee discussed options for our March program.  It will likely be virtual. After much conversation, we agreed on the topic – barriers/opportunities to building affordable housing in Corvallis.

As we do each December, Committee and other LWV members contribute to the annual gift bag program. Started by Penny York, the goal is to purchase or make items that can be used by our unhoused community. Previously, items were put in separate gift bags that were then distributed via the  Corvallis Daytime Drop-in Center. (CDDC) This year the project followed a different procedure. Working with Aleita Holcombe from the CDDC, Kerry Blum and Roberta Smith  purchased items requested by the CDDC that Roberta gathered up and then delivered to them.  Clients were then able to select only the items they needed.

According to Roberta, “…folks choose what they need, after Aleita sorts out who goes first – based on need, Veterans, other criteria. Amazing gloves, hats, scarves, socks to name a few (plus snacks).”

Many thanks  to Roberta and Kerry for taking the lead on this endeavor and a big thank you to Penny who is the inspiration for this project.
