DESCRIPTION:Join us for an important League process – reviewing the Child Care study and sharing your opinion so that LWVOR can create a position on Child Care. \nAt Convention 2021\, LWV of Washington County proposed a restudy of child care. Child care concerns have changed dramatically since our 1988 – Child Care In Oregon publication. Our advocacy position has not changed.  \nDownload the new study Caring for Our Children here.  \nLeague of Women Voters of Oregon is seeking consensus from local leagues across the state in order to develop an updated position.  Note: Consensus means a general agreement by members\, not a strict voting process. \nRead the study and mark your calendar to make your opinion count by attending one of the meetings we have planned to discuss the consensus questions: \n\nTuesday\, November 12th at 7:00 PM at the home of Connie Bozarth (conboz@comcast.net) or\nTuesday\, November 19th at 10:00 AM at the home of Ann Schauber (annschauber@gmail.com). \n\nEXECUTIVE SUMMARY OF THE NEW STUDY \nAn effective childcare system benefits the entire economy. In Oregon\, we have not done a good job of prioritizing child care needs and developing a strategic\, coordinated childcare plan. Usually\, the term “child care” suggests a picture of preschoolers in a classroom. Governor Kate Brown directed state agencies to find ways to more aggressively to implement the state’s climate change goals. This directive resulted in legislation on Climate Friendly and Equitable Communities and Middle Housing. Governor Tina Kotek has placed strong emphasis on addressing Oregonians’ housing needs. This initiative has and is continuing to push legislation to change land use laws to make it easier to build homes. \nThese laws impact all the communities in Linn and Benton Counties. They will result in land use changes within communities themselves and in their urban growth boundaries still within county jurisdiction. DESCRIPTION:The League of Women Voters of Corvallis is a long-time partner of the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition. This year’s Sustainability Fair at the Alumni Center on the OSU campus will be on Thursday\, March 13\, from 5 to 7 pm. \nIn past years\, the LWV of Corvallis has had a booth at the Fair\, and the deadline to register for a booth is fast approaching (2/15/25). But before we can sign up\, we need to identify a few volunteers to help staff the booth. \nFor those of you who may be unfamiliar with the Fair\, it typically draws more than 500 people and includes 60+ exhibitors\, a catered buffet\, and local musicians – all free of charge to attendees. It’s a truly fun and informative event! \nThis is a super easy\, short-term commitment that will help more people in our community learn about the good work of the League. If you’d like to volunteer to help staff the booth\, please contact LWVC President\, Elisabeth Anderson\, at lwvcorvallis@gmail.com.
